NWS confirms EF-1 tornado during Sunday's storms

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Ritchie and Pleasants Counties during Sunday's storms.

Meteorologists from Charleston traveled to inspect storm damage along French Creek Road, according to the office.

The preliminary results of their findings indicate it was an EF-1 tornado with max wind speeds reaching 100 mph, based on the healthy hardwood trees which were snapped and uprooted.

It touched down at 7:15 p.m. west of Poynette on County Route 20 in Pleasants County, then traveled roughly four miles to the end of the
path in Ritchie County on Old Street -- an area along the Pleasants and Ritchie County Line -- and ended at roughly 7:30 p.m.

At its widest, it was 200 yards wide.

No injuries were reported.

Earlier this month, the NWS confirmed EF-1 tornadoes from the July 7 storms, with one in Marion and Monongalia Counties and the other in Taylor County.
